Marielle Allschwang has spent the last five years providing vocals, violin, guitar, and percussion for various bands, including Altos, Hello Death, and Death Blues. Dead Not Done is Allschwang's first solo album. Her songs, although rooted in American folk traditions, warp and distort these established forms by coupling them with the experiments of the late 20th Century avant-garde and noise rock. Her live solo performances have been lauded by Milwaukee Record ("powerful, beautiful, intense, mind-blowing") and Shepherd Express: "Marielle Allschwang does double duty in the bands Altos and Hello Death, but she’s a born natural solo performer as well, commanding the stage with hushed intensity.
Sugar Ransom spent years in and out of Milwaukee, moving away from the city but never quite letting go of its music scene. After touring and floundering awhile, she's returned full time to the band who recorded MERCYHUNT with her, of which CMJ says:
'Sugar Ransom blends melancholy with elements of blues, western and folk. Steady drums, lush vocals, and plenty of acoustic guitar make Mercy Hunt, this Milwaukee-based songstress’s newest offering, sound like a drive down a dusty Western road in a vintage convertible or a fading film reel of some long ago moment.'
A dedicated songwriter and avid participant of the collaborative events of SteelBridge songfest, her songs grow to capture the bittersweet journeys of heroes. Sugar and the Secret Pistols' new material pushes the envelope further, gives songs new strengths, and rearranges Americana roots with a practiced fervor.
