A few days ago we premiered The Rashita Joneses' 7'' split single 'Wide Eyes/Alien Ocean' with rumors circulating about an upcoming music video. The scuzzy lo-fi sounds are complex with psychedelic tones and layered reverb creating intricate, hypnotic flows. Mixing surf vibes and garage grime, the single condenses multiplex tones and styles within 10 minutes.
The double feature is a small slice of what the Milwaukee-based band has been up to. With 3 separate tour releases, a planned full album, partaking in their label's inaugural festival (Tasty Tapes), and producing mini movies, the guys have developed a following for themselves... including some aliens.
The music video is an unanticipated large production based on absurd insanity. The WauCity produced vid is classified as a comedy and it's easy to see why - with terrorizing cameos, flashlights in the daytime, abducting aliens, and grotesque dissections, the shoot is a free-for-all. Even with the garage, DIY style, the spoof showcases the group's sense of humor and chill af attitude. Clearly enjoying themselves, the dudes production takes them on a extraterrestrial hunt that involves Milwaukee's finest and much more.
WHERE DID YOU GUYS COME UP WITH THIS IDEA?
The story behind the story line you say? Hmm well it's definitely the brain child of all 4 dudes. Jeff G, Phil, Matt, Joe, and Carter make up The Rashita Joneses and the Waucity team. Every on contributed to this awesome thing and it was fun af.
DID YOU INTEND ON IT BEING SUCH A LARGE PRODUCTION?
No, not at all. But once we started it became harder and harder to stop as we shot scenes and got into the fun of filming your friends and ish!
WAS THERE A REASON THIS MORE COMEDIC THAN YOUR OTHER VIDEOS?
It was completely natural, I mean with the story line we built together it was hard to not get a bunch of joke footage, most of which actually made the cut.
WHERE ARE THE ALIENS NOW?
The aliens have slowly been dying as we abuse them with body slams and turn their pool toy butts into costumes.
