Milwaukee based producer Thane has been keeping busy. He first caught our attention with his distinct jazz-infused R&B style on his first EP release Gravity. Now, he's expanded on that impressive platform with his full length debut, 'Topia'. The compilation is a striking mix of styles and influences. Heavily based on R&B, the album incorporates down-tempo, experimental hip hop, jazz, soul and rap to build the multi-faceted sound.
'Responsibilities' on the newly released album is a simple banger track with a minimalistic approach. The clean back-beat and bass provide the perfect backdrop for capturing flow and sounds of Anderson .Paak and BJ The Chicago Kid. While the track has an uptempo bounce, the heavy bass, commanding trumpets, and soft strings bring the overall sound to be a smooth and silky, down-tempo mix.
'Topia' is a prolific example of Thane's influence as a producer and artist. The various layers and instrumentals (including everything from a saxophone to an accordion) offer a peek into the musician's unique aesthetic. With Thane's distinct approach, he features talented artists from around the country including but not limited to BJ The Chicago Kid, Anderson .Paak, Mick Jenkins, and more. Complicated and exotic, the album is relevant to numerous genres and listeners alike.
