Slow Walker - Clown

Whether it is because everyone is still in a summer frenzy or there just seems to be a growing interest in the genre, the garage and grunge rock world in Milwaukee is expanding. With numerous side projects, increasing crowds, larger festivals and frequent shows, bands are making their mark in the Good Land.

Slow Walker, a trio of rock and roll dudes, is one of the bands that are making the most of their summer. Since we first caught them at Tasty Fest, the group has been shredding more frequently. Their classic Rock and Roll incorporates garage rock with an experimental grunge, and slight psychedelic, approach. 'Clown', off their album Robert Plantain's Grunge Lords Vol. 1,  is a prime example of their true rock sound. While gritter than other songs from the compilation, various soft chord crescendos are matched with powerful drums, gritty guitars, deep bass lines, and unfiltered rock and roll vocals.

Catch them this Saturday at Boone Row 2016.

Soul Low - Sitting by the Fire (Unplugged)

This weekend Gloss Records is celebrating their first birthday. The Milwaukee-based record label is hosting a three day party festival to honor the big day. Headlining Saturday (at Mad Planet) is none other than Milwaukee indie-rockers Soul Low. No stranger to the growing music community, the (incredibly busy) touring quartet has a well-established fan based and recently released an acoustic series, "Unplugged".

'Sitting by the Fire' is the second song on the WMSE broadcast. The stripped song contrasts the Uneasy EP version. With softer beats and melodies, the tune manages to still showcases the bands distinct sound. For the special series, Soul Low recruited string and bold brass accompaniments. Layering their sound and creating complex arrangements with dynamic tones. The overall production is raw and illustrative of their works and approach. While this song is one of their more popular pieces, make sure to check out the entire series for a well produced and executed recording.

Below is the complete release (with new songs). See the dudes (in person) this weekend!

Paper Holland - Liz Lemon

After three years and two new members, pop indie rock band, Paper Holland, has released a new album, Fast Food. Their short but sweet compilation incorporates simple instrumentals, light and buoyant accompaniments, and powerful string arrangements.

Their opening song, 'Liz Lemon', introduces their new sound with simple bass chords, clear-cut lyrics, and soft harmonies. Their rhythmic and gentle start builds up with strong, hearty trumpets and spirited assembles. We are looking forward to more from this Milwaukee staple. Welcome back Paper Holland!
